Migratory Symphony
In May 2007, Ecume and the Municipality of two districts of the city
of Marseilles invited Nada Sehnaoui to create a site specific
installation. The artist was interested in involving school students
in a work that would express the multicultural nature of Marseilles,
a city of immigration. She therefore asked one hundred middle school
students to each interview their parents and grandparents about the
migratory history of their family. Where did their family come from?
When and how did their family arrive to Marseilles? Music stands
carried the stories the students collected.
