In 2004, Nada Sehnaoui was invited to participate in the Tunis Biennale. The theme that the curators chose that year was “Earth.” The artist found Tunis to be dry, and her installation titled Sand dealt with the topic of desertification—the growth of the desert at the expense of fertile land, thus creating shortages of drinkable water.
